Barbara Kellerman is a pioneering scholar and thought leader in the fields of leadership and followership studies. As the James MacGregor Burns Lecturer in Leadership at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government, she has been at the forefront of redefining how we understand the dynamics of power, influence, and authority within organizations and society.
Kellerman's work is particularly notable for emphasizing the importance of followership in the leadership process. Her book Followership: How Followers Are Creating Change and Changing Leaders is a landmark contribution that highlights how followers actively shape leadership outcomes. She has also explored the darker side of leadership in her thought-provoking book Bad Leadership: What It Is, How It Happens, Why It Matters, which examines the causes and consequences of ineffective and unethical leadership.
In addition to her extensive writing, including The End of Leadership and Leadership: Essential Selections on Power, Authority, and Influence, Kellerman continues to challenge conventional thinking about leadership and advocate for a more holistic perspective that includes both leaders and followers as essential agents of change.
